SOCIAL SECURITY RETIREMENT BENEFITS
Provides retirement benefits to workers who have paid taxes into the system thereby earning "credits". The amount of benefits are based on date of birth, type of benefits being applied for, and earnings. Workers should talk with a Social Security Representative in the year before retirement is planned. Depending on the year a worker was born, the age to receive full retirement benefits varies from age 65-67. Reduced benefits may be available as early as age 62. If an individual accepts reduced benefits, the amount received remains the same for his/her lifetime. Some individuals may elect to continue work beyond full retirement age and not apply for benefits until later to increase the benefit received.
